I wouldn't wanna be anybody else, hey You made me insecure, to me I wasn't good enough But who are you to judge When you're a diamond in the rough
I'm sure you got some things You'd like to change about yourself But when it comes to me I wouldn't want to be anybody else
I'm no beauty queen, I'm just beautiful me You got every right to a beautiful life, come on
Who says, who says you're not perfect Who says you're not worth it Who says you're the only one that's hurting Trust me that's the price of beauty Who says you're not pretty Who says you're not beautiful, who says?
This song "Who says" by Selena Gomez is an example of Self-Reliance because she has faith in herself and feels confident of who she is. This song shows people that they are all unique and beautiful in their own ways. When she says " Im no beauty queen, im just beautiful me", she knows shes not perfect but shes knows shes beautiful in her own ways. (:

I agree with you, this song shows that she is self reliant and she doesnt need anyone telling her what she can do and cant do. I think this song also shows that she's a free thinker, if she wants to be something and other people don't agree then she'd probably still try and do it. That also shows that she is a nonconformist.

I think this song has great lyrics because not only in Hollywood, but everywhere else in the world people are being told that they are not perfect and that they are not worth anything. This song is a good example of Self-Reliance because it does say that one will get told by others how imperfect they are, but one has to get over that. One has to boost their confidence up by accepting who they are because like nature is beautiful so is everybody else in their own way. Like it is mentioned in Emerson's essay, Self-Reliance, "...envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide; that he must take himself for better, for worse, as his portion..." (245). Emerson is clearly saying that people will envy you, but they are just being ignorant of who you are. That imitating someone else is like committing suicide because you are not being yourself. Your own personality is dead. Accept yourself for who you are and your self-confidence will help others to accept you for who you are.
