In the movie Cast Away, Chuck Noland, the main character and also a very un-transcendentalist person who becomes very preoccupied with his job and time that he finds no time to spend special moments with friends and loved ones. After the FedEx airplane crashes in the South Pacific, Chuck experiences many life changing events. After struggling to survive the first couple of days, he Chuck realizes that no human might ever find him and he needs to depend on himself in order to survive. Chuck decides to go out into the ocean and attempts to reach land. After trying so many days he was finally found by a ship and was brought back home. When he arrived home he was not the same Chuck Noland that the on the only thing he worried about was time. Now he had become a transcendentalist man.

I agree with you completely, Andrea. In order to survive, Chuck had to adopt many transcendentalist characteristics, such as self-reliance, free thinking, and, quite obviously, the importance of nature. He had to depend on himself, think outside the box, and learn how to adapt to nature in order to survive. It changes a man. Good job.

I also agree. With the lack of human contact and any assistance from anything else, Chuck had to adapt to being self reliant. The importance of nature was also a very strong example of transcendentalism. Nature was Chuck's greatest friend and enemy.

I also agree with the notion that the isolation "forced" Chuck had to take on transcendental properties in order to survive. if he wouldnt had adapted he wouldve dided, but in retrospect maybe some of his old habits also contributed to his survival.

I agree he have to learn to see the beauty in nature and to feed and take care of himself if he want to survive. He had to change his ways to have a chances to live and lucky he did.
