Without a doubt one of the greatest films ever produced the dead poets society is filled with transcendental ideas. this movie takes place in Welton Academy a school driven on discipline and strict obedience. This obsessive system is interrupted by John Keating a new English teacher that quickly teaches his students to doubt the system, rely on themselves and not their father's beliefs, and to "seize the day" by exemplifying free thinking. these transcendental ideas evolve more as the story goes on and become a key factor in its inspiring and dramatic theme.

CARPE DIEM! I was originally going to watch this movie, but I already saw it. This movie is pretty much the best example of transcendentalism that a movie can be! Mr. Keating always pushed for his students to act as individuals. :-)

I agree to the fact that its a Great movie, and it also puts in a really good idea of transcendentalism. Mr. Keating taught his group well by advising and telling them to rely on no one but themselves. Making the students think for their own, really changed the guys ideas and lives. AS someone once told me "your future is for your own use and good, and it will only depend on you. The dreams you have will be accomplished over time if you take the time to plan out what you want and you actions to get there. There will be others to tell you stuff on what they think, but sometimes those words destroy dreams, so its soemtimes better to rely on no one but yourself."

I agree this movies is awesome and proably the best example of Transcendentalism. The movie pretty much has trancendentalism written all over it. From the moment that Mr.Keatin makes his student rip out the introduction to understanding poetry to the moment were his students stand up on their desks saying oh captain my captain against the headmasters wishes.(my favorite part!) Mr. Keating helped his students trancend. This was hard for the students in particilarly for one student because their parents were very controlling over their lives. By 'disobeying' their parents they practiced non-conformity.By following their dreams they thought freely and became self reliant. I dint like that one student committed suicide after all the effort Mr. Keating put into teaching him how to 'suck all the marrow of life'.
