The movie "Into the Wild" showed a great deal of Transcendental characteristics through Chris' journey or nature. When Chris burned all his identification and material objects you could say he as looking to "transcend" to something higher than material meaning. Throughout Chris's journey he wrote in his journal his thoughts toward nature and his experience in it. He expresses nature's importance with each tie he would talk about it, saying it's all that man needs and nothing else. Chris would also quote philosophers and thinkers that had transcendentalist thoughts connecting them to his situation. Chris also expressed the characteristic of self-reliance by always denying a permanent home from the "hippy" couple and Ron. Chris always did what he wanted non-conforming to what anyone's disagreement, he chose his way and not anyone else's.
