Beauty and the Beast From modern movies to movies of my childhood I found many traces of Transcendentalism thinking back to them. I chose a commonly known movie from what I assume is from many of my peers' childhoods, Beauty and the Beast. In the movie Beauty and the Beast the characteristics "Self-Reliance" and "Non-Conformity" are expressed though the feelings and emotions of the "Beast" and Belle. Belle, despite the Beast's looks, temper, and reputation that her village gave him, she still had the heart of getting to know him and understanding him as a person. At one point in the movie Belle could have escaped, but once she had gotten to know the Beast, she did not want to leave him. Her Non-Conformity taught the Beast to have Self-Reliance and see the world in his own eyes rather than the eyes of a monster. As they both over came their fears of not living up to society's standards (Belle not marrying the man she was suppose to and Beast not being as generous as encouraged) they sought through and were happy in the end.
