www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAbGAkkOgcMI chose the movie Mulan because it shows a great deal of transcendentalism.Mulan is a very brave young women who goes against everyone to save her fathers life even though it means impersonating a solider "her father". She is very self reliance when she reaches the training camp, having to hid her identy and train like never before.Mulan is none conforming for she doesn't follow others paths she creates her own.In this movie the people believe a lot in that there ancestors spirits this is a form of transcending for there beliefs. This movie teaches us to be true to ourselves no matter how hard it is. I agree with you, In this movie Mulan shows that she can think for herself when she takes her fathers place in the army. She learns about herself and becomes self reliant. Even before she took her father's place, she never fit in with the other girls her age. She was always a little quirky and didn't have what men looked for in a wife.

Mulan is definitely a non-conforming character. She refused to accept her place as a simple wife, hiding in the shadows. Headstrong and independent, Mulan showed that she would not allow the world to hold her down. She singlehandedly changed the outcome of the battle with the Huns. Her non-conformity allowed her to become a hero.

I have not watched this movie recently, but if I think about it I now do think of Mulan as a non-conforming person like Ruby mentioned before. Mulan is supposed to be a “perfect” wife just like her mother and the other women in town; she was kind of a tomboy. She did not comfort to what society had planned for her. She did what ever it was she was able to do to get in the army and taking her father’s place. Her family did not want her to go out to the army and as a woman she was not allowed to go out and fight. She had to rely on herself for the support and assurance she needed. This makes Mulan self-reliant.
